Final Aims and Intentions

  • How and why will you use media language in your media production?
  • ·       How and why will you construct representation of individuals, groups and issues/events?
  • ·       How will you target you intended audience/users?
  • ·       How will your production conform to its industry context?

I will use media language within in my media production to create a well produced, thought out TV show musical featuring an element of comedy. A common stylistic technique I noticed in other musical drama is the use of fluid camera work, allowing the show to develop in a similar way the music in the shows. With a mise – en - scene matching a typical background many other TV show musicals use, a theatre and backstage, my show won’t be too dissimilar to other shows which are shown on TV.  With the quick witty editing shots I will be able to convey my characters in a comedic light, despite the show also being a drama, keeping the audience entertained as well as informed. My intention is to create a TV show which fits the appropriate stereotypes of a TV show musical such as having authentic actors who are able to not only actor but could also be in a real life musical, not just a TV show. However I will not be focusing on the stereotype of the female lead being a ‘damsel character, who needs saving’.

One of my main focuses in creating my TV show was to have a strong female representation, therefor leading to the idea of having an all-female cast. I want to demonstrate how competitive the industry is for females between each other, let alone from men and women, allowing me to focus on females and take away any male parts. Additionally following several scandals which have come out in the past year, I wanted to have a show which didn’t have men having all the power in situations regarding people’s careers. Having a show which represents females as strong and independent, for me, is very important, especially in the industry and to the views watching the show.

My intended audience will be 18 – 25 millennials who are interested in TV show musicals, or stage musicals. The social category for my audience would be B, C1, C2 and potentially D. This is because the majority of the people who are interested in the theatre are people who are able to go, however due to the high costs of going, some families who belong to the lower social categories such as C2 or D might not be able to afford to go watch live theatre. This is why I want to make a TV show about the theatre to make stage entertainment more accessible. I want my viewers to be able to see themselves in my characters and possibly inspire them to become active in the theatre and performing arts.

I want to produce a TV show musical which would be familiar to others you would see on ITV, however I would like my show to also to have an element which is new and unique which shows my input on the TV show. My unique selling point which doesn’t/ hasn’t been showcased on ITV is that my show will consist on an all female cast. I want to be able to showcase the importance of women in the performing industry, therefor I feel if I created a TV show consisting of actresses, acting as musical theatre actors, it will show how many women there are in the industry. Ultimately it would empower women to do their work on an important and well known platform without worrying about possible scandals or assaults.
